Apple iPad to account for 61% share of global tablet market in 2011

According to a recent report from Digitimes Research, Apple is projected to ship over 40mn iPads in 2011, a 150% jump over 2010. The global tablet market is here.

Apple continues to dominate the tablet market while facing increased competition from a wide variety of Android -based tablets.

It is good news for tablet enthusiasts like us at Propelics to see that the tablet continues to perform well globally, even given the broader macro-economic situation.

No doubt a significant portion of the 40mn iPads projected to be shipped this year are for consumers.  Consumer traction is bleeding into the Enterprise resulting in many companies starting to consider large scale iPad purchases, and sometimes before, sometimes after, looking towards an Enterprise iPad strategy.

Propelics predicts that iPads will become a game changer for forward thinking companies.

We are hoping the conversation will shift from tracking iPad penetration to tracking how the iPad is being used to increase revenue or reduce costs.

In the weeks and months ahead, we hope to lead the conversation / educational cycle in how Businesses can use the iPad for their own competitive edge.
